Maryam Blankenship featured as Guest Artist at VAWOCP Show

Our NYSWOCP members are are sought-after artists and teachers, and you will find them featured at state shows, seminars, national and international events. This spring, Adirondack Porcelain artist member, and teacher, Maryam Blankenship was featured as guest artist at Virginia's "Artistry on Porcelain" show. The 4 clubs who make up the Virginia WOCP pulled together a wonderful show at the P.Buckley Moss museum. Maryam provided a detailed seminar, exhibit, and demonstration of her techniques for painting miniatures.

In addition to Maryam, NY artists and teachers Mary Gosden and Joyce Stewart also provided demonstrations and offered their paintings and supplies for sale in their booth. I also had the opportunity to offer our NYSWOCP greeting cards for sale in my booth at the VAWOCP show. I would like to thank all the wonderful members of VAWOCP for their support of NYSWOCP and our member artists, teachers, and suppliers.

Maryam is on Facebook, and you can see more of Maryam's miniature paintings by joining Facebook and requesting her as your Facebook friend. Be sure to "like" our NYSWOCP Facebook page too when you join.

News from Irma

Adirondack Porcelain Artist are welcomed Spring after a long hard Winter. With a world so beautiful, our thought's are with all people having sorrow in there life. During the Winter month's we enjoyed a seminar with Gerry Burchill (shown in photo).teaching us a lovely snowscene. We also painted a barn wall with window, the ground was covered with wild daisey's.Had fun with Gerry like always. Janet Le Roy gave us lesson's on making Thumbprints on small tiles that will become small magnets.Thumbprints became little cute animals. The magnets are going to be sold at our next Hollyberry Luncheon in November. Our Nancy Naim came up with a clever idea to write recipe's on tiles and decorate them with our china paints. She also would like to sell them at our Hollyberry event. Audrey Mc Cullough has been very busy heading the sales of flower bulbs and selling lovely cards for the NYSWOCP .So much work, time and care is going into this project. She is truly amazing. Janet Le Roy makes our life easy by having her camera always ready for all our needs, she also gives us our minutes,I feel so good to have her detailed writings each month. All of our members are sharing so much, it makes for a great club to be part off.

In my last Newsletter I promised to share a story about Lilac.

This story goes back to World war two when I was a little girl of nine years .I presented my Mother with a most beautiful fragranced old facioned lilac bouquet that grew somewhere wild on someones land.-We where poor and it was Mothersday. We had lost my Father only a few month's previous in the war.My Mothers face lit up with a smile, that was the day she told me that lilac is a poor mans flower. Now,so many years past I never forgot her story. We all pass by land, see old barns , old foundations and see a bush of lilac somewhere in the landscape growing all by itself. Today while painting lilac,my respect for this lovely flower bush will not allow me to embellish my piece of china with gold or luster. I think a little thought should be given to this wonder of bush that seems to be gowing forever.

My next Newsletter will there be a story?I like on to be told by You

Audrey McCullough
September 2011, NYSWOCP Member of the Month

Audrey McCullough is a member of NYSWOCP's Adirondack Porcelain Artists club. Audrey has been influential in bringing many new and exciting artists from the mid-Hudson valley of NY into porcelain painting. Audrey says, "I am not a teacher....but I will share what I know or what I have learned at a demonstration or seminar." Audrey opens her home regularly for Adirondack club members to gather round the kitchen table to paint and chat. She is inspiring and encouraging...some say even demanding when it comes to painting for the annual Hollyberry luncheon which she coordinated for many years.

Audrey is the mother of 3 children and 7 grandchildren who now live across the US. This is a great excuse for Audrey to travel to visit them. Travel is a hobby of Audrey's, and she make an adventurous trip this year, a cruise to Antarctica!

Audrey has been instrumental in the fundraising for NYSWOCP. She has spear-headed the greeting card project and the bulb project this year. Please join me in saying, "Thanks" to Audrey for everything she does for NYSWOCP.

Niloufer Rodrigues

Niloufer Rodrigues
November 2010 NYSWOCP Member of the Month

Niloufer is a member of Adirondack porcelain artists, and has been china painting only a few years. Originally from India, Niloufer found her inspiration to china paint during a visit to India. She was admiring the work of a relative who had been studying porcelain art with a teacher from Germany, and she decided that she would like to try this form of artistic expression herself.

Niloufer searched the internet and found NYSWOCP members, Doris Ackilli, and Audrey McCullough and contacted them immediately about china painting. In fact, the first time Niloufer called Audrey, she hang up the phone and drove over to Audrey's house and painted all afternoon.

Since that afternoon, Niloufer has painted birds and flowers and is currently experimenting with landscapes. She is a huge fan of Gerry Burchill's scenes. Please be sure to keep an eye out for some landscapes from Niloufer at our next NYSWOCP exhibit.
